Director of Technology
Ed Martin is the Director, Technology at CDHI. Ed has implemented several ground-breaking healthcare applications that have won several UC Sautter Innovation Awards. Examples include Careweb Messenger, a clinician collaboration application that facilitates communications around in-patient care; a mobile patient care survey and analytics tool for UCSF Health's Nursing Performance Improvement team; and a Research Participant Management System that facilitates the enrollment of research volunteers for clinical studies campus-wide by allowing people to register online for projects they are interested in.
Prior to UCSF, Ed was founder and VP, Engineering for Loyalty Lab, a marketing solutions startup that was acquired by TIBCO. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Davis and a Master of Science Degree in Healthcare Informatics from Boston University.

Full Stack Engineer
Farshad Hemmati is currently a full stack developer at CDHI. He has been writing coding since he was 7 years old -- writing QBASIC programs on a x286 machine. He studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley and is an avid Microsoft .NET stack enthusiast, earning several Microsoft MVP awards. He comes from a background of startups, having started his first profitable startup company when he was 16 years old, and founded a dozen companies since. The startup world gave him the insight and experience in different aspects of a product; from the engineering, architecture, product design, team building, management and most importantly the user.

SmarterHealth Technical Architect
Mr. Hesse leads the technical architecture, implementation and operational activities for the CDHI SmarterHealth initiatives. He works in partnership with faculty and data science teams with an overall goal of delivering agile and secure solutions that address complex data acquisition, processing, and analytic problems with an emphasis on impacting clinical workflows and patient outcomes.
Senior Developer Communications Platform
Ladd joined CDHI in 2015, where he redesigned the CareWeb application, improving reliability, functionality and performance. Ladd joined UCSF in 2006, as part of the UCSF Medical Center Web Services team, where he served as lead developer and created and enhanced several important applications including UCare Notewriter and Medication Reconciliation. When UCSF moved to the Epic EHR, Ladd helped with the data migration, and transitioned to the Ambulatory/Clinical Documentation team.
Prior to that Ladd worked for a major hospital software vendor on the Conversion team and later became a DBA. He began his first computer company with a friend in 1978, where he developed systems to do everything from accounting to calculating the grinding instructions for eye glasses, moving then to medical and dental software.
Ladd has won numerous awards including recognition for his work on UCare Notewriter which was awarded the “GE Customer Innovation Award” and for his work on CareWeb which was awarded the “UCSF Patient Safety Award”.
Sondra Renly, Technical Architect working on the Digital Patient Experience initiative, is implementing integrated information technology solutions with a patient centered approach to delivering better collaboration, insights, and health outcomes in care delivery. Sondra is a passionate advocate for advancing health IT capabilities and is experienced in industry interoperability and coding standards, patient consent and privacy requirements, and solution architecture. Her past work includes implementation of Health Information Exchanges, building IHE healthcare interoperability profiles, and laboratory information systems. Sondra has a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, both from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Data Systems Analyst

Fel has over 20 years of healthcare experience ranging from providers to payers to consumers. His seminal work at Kaiser Permanente’s Caregiver Workstation Group transitioned his career path into healthcare. Upon leaving Kaiser, he co-founded a startup that was subsequently acquired by Healtheon which in turn, merged with WebMD. At Healtheon, he was one of five Principal Engineers that designed and implemented the healthcare platform, resulting in two US patents. He went on to join other startups with varying roles: Principal Engineer, VP of Engineering, and COO. As the Integration Architect at RelayHealth/McKesson, he led the design and implementation to tightly integrate patient application data to back-end health systems. He took a sabbatical to live in Paris for one year before joining MuleSoft as the Healthcare lead. After MuleSoft, he joined John Muir Hospital as the Lead Product Developer and finally UCSF as a Principal Engineer. With his years of experience in the healthcare space, Fel is well-versed in a wide range of product development methodologies, programming languages and HL7 (v2.x and FHIR) standards.

Harris Durrani is an analyst at CDHI, who identifies high volume templates for departments that are adopting the Fax to Referral Application in Epic. Aside from working on templates, his role also includes supporting new departments during the implementation of Fax to Referral by resolving issues with the app or training new users on how to use it. Prior to joining CDHI he graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Information Systems.

Application Support Analyst
Daniel Alexander Tjandra, BS, CDHI Application Support Analyst, works with CDHI to analyze and develop technologies used to improve health systems today. With experience as a software engineer and database manager, he has a thorough understanding of the processes needed for the secure collection and utilization of research data.

Oleksandr (Alex) Solonets, is a QA automation engineer supporting the Digital Patient Experience initiative. Alex has spent the past 7 years of his career in designing and developing testing frameworks, processes, and scripts for web and mobile application and API's. He was most recently at eBay where he was involved in several QA automation projects involving data exchange across multiple systems. Alex has a Master's Degree in Finance, Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Engineering, and a MBA in Management Information Systems.
